Could a HMRC Enquiry Land You With An Unexpected Bill?

Many people assume that if their tax return is correct, they have nothing to worry about. But even a perfectly filed return can trigger a HMRC investigation and defending one can run to thousands of pounds in accountancy fees, regardless ofthe outcome.

HMRC is investigating more people than ever. Their Connect database draws on bank records, Land Registry data, card transactions, DVLA, and even social media to identify cases for review. Random enquiries can happen too. A single tax enquiry or VAT inspection can last over a year and cost thousands in professional fees. An R&D enquiry can run to tens of thousands. These costs are not included as part of your standard annual fees.

How our Fee Protection Service helps

Our Fee Protection Service is an insurance-backed policy that covers the professional fees we charge to represent you in the event of an HMRC enquiry. It provides up to £100,000 of cover with no excess, across a wide range of investigations including Income Tax, Corporation Tax, VAT, PAYE, IR35, CIS, Capital Gains Tax, and more.

For limited companies and partnerships, the policy covers both the business and it's directors (provided the directors are also personal clients of Frost).

How much does the service cost?

Our Fees Protection Service is billed annually at:

-         £25 + VAT for private individuals

-         £50 + VAT for sole traders

-         £75 + VAT for partnerships

-         £100 + VAT for limited companies and LLPs.

Set against the potential cost of a single enquiry, it is a straightforward way to protect yourself from an unpredictable expense.
